The Library of Congress. The Library of Congress is the nation´s oldest federal cultural institution, and it serves as the research arm of Congress. It is also the largest library in the world, with more than 120 million items. The collections include books, sound recordings, motion pictures, photographs, maps, and manuscripts.

Installée à Washington et fondée en 1800, la Bibliothèque du Congrès, est la plus importante des bibliothèques du monde en nombre d'ouvrages. Son budget annuel dépasse les 540 millions de dollars US, le fonds documentaire dépasse les 120 millions de documents, et compte des raretés comme un des trois exemplaires de la Bible de Gutenberg (1400-1468).
